Waldom Connect: How Waldom and veritree are Shaping Sustainable IP&E Distribution Together

In the heart of Kenya’s coastal region, a transformation is taking place, thanks to a remarkable initiative by Waldom in partnership with veritree. This isn’t just about planting trees — it’s a story of revival, restoring natural resources to the people and creating job opportunities.

Can you imagine a world where more corporations prioritize giving back to the earth?

Join us as we delve into the benefits of reforestation and its impact on global ecosystems.

Why Reforestation Matters

Communities that live within forests benefit directly from forest biodiversity for their livelihoods. This includes leveraging resources for food, fodder, energy, shelter, and medicine. Restoring forests has a plethora of benefits, including protecting habitats for animals and plants, providing clean air and water, and reducing the effects of climate change. Forest loss directly results in increased carbon emissions and declining biodiversity. A recent UN report discovered approximately 1 million animal and plant species at riskof extinction like never before.

Waldom is leading the way in environmental stewardship, recognizing that reforestation not only revitalizes habitats and ecosystems but also generates job opportunities. This initiative is crucial as forests and nature-based solutions are estimated to contribute up to one-third of the global emissions cutsrequired by 2030.

Who is veritree?

veritree connects businesses with verified planting projects to restore the planet. In fact, their innovative real-time tracking options were the deciding factor in Waldom’s selection of veritree for this mission. They create local jobs, sequester carbon, and restore ecosystems. Their goal is to avoid the worst effects of the climate and nature crises and to transition from an extractive economy to a restorative economy. At the core of veritree's approach are nature-based solutions, which involve actions that prevent deforestation or compensate for carbon emissions through reforestation and ecosystem rehabilitation.

You can track the impact of the Waldom and veritree partnership with the latest statistics.

Transforming Kenya’s Coastline

The mangrove vegetation was once a healthy ecosystem in precolonial times. However, during British rule, the colonial government exported mangrove wood without the participation of the local community.

Mangroves typically live on muddy soil, while some can live on sand, peat, or coastal rock. This remarkable species lives in extremely salty water — 100 times saltierthan the majority of other plants can withstand. Mangroves are crucial to protecting coastal ecosystems.

How Mangroves Benefit the Environment

Mangroves combat climate change through carbon sequestration. Their soil absorbs and stores carbon dioxide, reducing the impacts of global warming. The mangroves support an ecosystem that stores four times as much carbon as inland forests, and with the Mangroves rooted, the carbon stays in the soil. The mangroves are a natural defense, protecting the shorelines from storms, erosion, and floods. With the mangroves returning, so are other species, including various fish, birds, crabs, shrimp, and the Red Mangrove Crab and Mudskippers. Even marine mammals like dugongsare returning.

What are the Socioeconomic Benefits?

The natural defense provided by the mangroves helps to maintain the livelihood of local fishery production. The mangrove ecosystem estimates two-thirdsof the fish eaten in Kenya spend a portion of their lifetime in the mangroves. Fishery production creates opportunities for jobs, income, and a reliable food source.

There are other programs led by the UN already underway like Vanga Blue Forests projectthat supports community sustainable development processes with local sanitation projects, and upgrades to critical infrastructure like hospitals. Through programs like this, more jobs are created from refurbishing hospitals to having a place for local physicians to treat their patients and early childcare positions. As you can see, planting Mangroves is vital to these local communities, which is why Waldom is proud to partner with veritree.

Circular Economy in Action

On average, the total weight of global electronic and electrical equipment consumption rises by 2.5 million metric tons every year. Electronic waste is causing a loss of at least $57 billion per year due to discarding raw materials like iron, copper, and gold. Waldom has created the ultimate redistribution through our Green Stockinitiative. Through this initiative, Waldom acquires excess components from authorized distributors. These high-demand parts are then inspected and sold through our network rather than going to the landfill.

The circular economy of electronic components in an ideal world.

Waldom’s Green Stock initiative is two-fold: e-waste is reduced because excess components are reused rather than sent to a landfill, and a tree is planted with every Green Stock order.

We can all build circular economy models with the right strategies in place, and you can start right here by taking part in Waldom’s solutions.

Join Us in Making a Difference

With Waldom’s tree planting program, we aim to amplify our impact and equip others in the industry to make a difference. Here are the details:

Pioneering Impactful Tree-Planting

Distributors can capitalize on Waldom’s commitment to planting 100,000 trees, which enables them to purchase trees in multiples of 20 for just $0.25 per tree — creating a larger impact at lower cost for participants. When placing orders for components through Waldom, customers will also see the option to add trees to their basket.

Benefits of Waldom’s Tree Planting Program

The Waldom program gives distributors the opportunity to advance their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.

Companies who participate in the Green Stock Program receive quantifiable data on their environmental impact. Waldom will provide quarterly reports detailing the number of trees planted on their behalf, as well as the number of components saved from landfills. This data can be applied to ESG disclosures for compliance with sustainability standards. These programs contribute to improved corporate social responsibility ratings and foster stakeholder engagement and accountability.

The program doesn’t only benefit distributors, but manufacturers as well. Manufacturers can include the trees that Waldom plants on behalf of their distributors, as well as the number of branded components repurposed by Waldom in their ESG reports. Additionally, manufacturers can choose to allocate 1% of their profits to tree planting and elect to purchase additional trees as discussed above. This program is designed to foster long-term commitments between Waldom and its distributor and manufacturer partners that can be integrated with other corporate sustainability goals.

Waldom is leading this movement towards sustainability, hoping to inspire others within our industry to make an impact together. Seize the chance to make a significant impact through Waldom’s unique solutions. Contact us today to discover more about how you can contribute.
